Energy Transition Practorate
The energy transition requires well-trained professionals who can contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions. That is why the two ROCs in Lifeport Arnhem-Nijmegen region are jointly exploring the possibility of setting up a practical department for energy transition. The practical department should ensure a close link between education and business, so that students and employees are optimally prepared for the rapidly changing energy sector.
To steer this development in the right direction, a quartermaster was appointed. He investigated how best to organise the practorate and which partnerships with companies, governments and knowledge institutions are necessary. The advice was presented before the summer.

What is a practorate?
A practorate is an expertise platform within the MBO and offers the opportunity to link education and innovation to practice. In cooperation with companies and institutions in the energy transition, the aim is to train and upskill technical professionals so that they can immediately respond to new developments in the energy sector.
This provides added value for:
- the professional field: solutions for practical issues and staff shortages
- Students: better preparation for professional practice
- Teachers: deepening and professionalisation within their own field.
With the rise of renewable energy, hydrogen technology and smart grids, the need for specific knowledge and skills is growing. The lab can bridge the gap between practice and vocational education, allowing students not only to gain theoretical knowledge, but also to contribute directly to concrete energy projects in this region.

Energy transition in Lifeport
Lifeport Arnhem Nijmegen region is a forerunner in the field of energy transition, with companies and knowledge institutes working together on innovative solutions. The research centre can play an important role in these ecosystems by tailoring educational programmes to the latest technologies and market needs.
It also offers opportunities for lifelong development, giving not only students but also employees and lateral entrants the chance to further specialise in the energy sector. This ensures a continuous supply of well-trained staff, which is crucial to accelerate the energy transition.

The department in the Human Capital Agenda
The ultimate goal is to create a practice-oriented knowledge centre in which students, teachers and professionals learn, experiment and innovate together. In this way, the practorate directly contributes to a future-proof labour market and a successful energy transition in the region. The members of The Economic Board's Human Capital team facilitate and monitor this process.
