Climate change, scarcity of raw materials and drinking water and environmental problems. As a society, we have a big task for a more sustainable world. In Lifeport, we therefore see smart sustainability as a precondition for innovation in Energy, Health and High Tech. And we see sustainability as a precondition for a good and vital life in Lifeport.

Good and vital life in a sustainable world

Sustainability in Energy, Health and High Tech
Sustainability is a prerequisite for our economic activities. Also for the three innovative clusters we focus on. Such as climate-adaptive energy generation at Energy. Think heat stress reduction (prevention) at Health. Or circular energy and water systems for the bulk consumers in High Tech.

Four focus areas
Within Lifeport, we focus in particular on:
- Climate adaptation (water, soil and greening)
- Circular construction and transformation
- Circular economy
- Sufficient and healthy drinking water

Most circular region in the Netherlands
An ABN Amro report called Lifeport the most circular region in the Netherlands. This is also reflected in the enormous pool of knowledge at our educational institutions. Not only in the field of the circular economy, but also in other areas of sustainability. Such as sustainable energy. Because yes: sustainability is in our DNA.

Four hubs for sustainability
Lifeport has four hubs for cooperation on sustainability. Here, education, entrepreneurs and the government join forces to tackle sustainability issues.

Green working environment for talent
You are young and... you want a green working environment. As a region, we desperately need young talent. It is becoming increasingly clear that the new generation also considers the working environment when choosing a job. No more grey and asphalt, but experiencing green and nature at lunch time. Lifeport provides space for this, like at Noviotech Campus and Cleantech Park Arnhem (formerly IPKW).

Next issue: drinking water
Sufficient available and healthy drinking water. It is less and less obvious. The demand for drinking water is increasing, while availability is decreasing. As is the quality. Lifeport therefore sees this as an important new sustainability theme. Interesting initiatives are already emerging in several places. Such as circular water systems at major consumer NXP. There are also many opportunities here for education and companies.

Region Deal Healthy Green Growth
For sustainability, the Region Deal Healthy Green Growth is an important source of funding. Six projects from the region deal feature sustainability. One example is the Lifeport Cool Lab project. Five municipalities and the HAN University of Applied Sciences are jointly researching how to combat heat stress in public spaces together with residents.
