Lifeport pays a lot of attention to the subject of Labour Market. Governments, knowledge institutions and companies face the joint challenge of solving the current shortages. Renate Bouwman is working on a joint Human Capital Agenda on behalf of The Economic Board. Together with other key stakeholders, she is committed to a resilient labour market in the region.
Currently, the labour market in the Netherlands is unbalanced. Many companies and other organisations have great difficulty in attracting the right staff. This is due to staff shortages, but also to insufficient connection with the current workforce for new knowledge and skills. In time, this leads to hindering the region's growth and innovative strength.
Interactive sessions and Human Capital Agenda
Bouwman's roles include civic entrepreneur Labour Market at The Economic Board. In this role, Bouwman is committed to attracting and retaining talent in the region. Lifelong Development for All and Activating Unused Labour Potential are also important themes. These three come together in the regional Human Capital Agenda.
Bouwman was involved in the creation of the regional Human Capital Agenda. In several sessions in autumn 2021, key stakeholders came together to lay the proverbial first pieces of the puzzle for this. The aim is to realise a labour market that works for the region and its people. Now that that basis for the Human Capital Agenda is in place, in 2022 it will be a matter of getting on with it.
The Human Capital Agenda has two main goals. One is to improve the match between labour supply and demand. The other is to make the region visible as an attractive region for talent. This is done in a joint approach to avoid fragmentation of projects. The province of Gelderland, the Arnhem-Nijmegen Green Metropolitan Region and The Economic Board are joining forces to this end.
Through the Human Capital Agenda, the parties set the course for the next four years. Bouwman: "The main challenge is to make this agenda concrete. Think about drawing up objectives, projects for the region and also funding."
Human Capital Agreement
The Human Capital Agenda guides future actions in the field of Labour Market, such as the Human Capital Agreement 2022-2025. In the development of this agreement, attracting funding is key. This will be used for projects that ensure a good and balanced labour market.
Bouwman: "With the Human Capital Agreement, knowledge institutions and companies link up for projects and funding. Then we will work together in the coming years to strengthen the regional labour market, with those specific projects."
Lifeport Welcome Center
Another important development in the region in the field of Labour Market is the development of a Lifeport Welcome Centre. At this location, expats and international students will be introduced to what the region has to offer. They also get help here with issues related to working, studying and living in the region.
Furthermore, such a welcome centre offers a lot of added value for SMEs in the region. After all, companies can also come here for questions or support on hiring international staff.
Lifeport is... Labour market
In 2022, therefore, Labour Market remains as important as ever in Lifeport. Besides the developments for the Human Capital Agenda and the Lifeport Welcome Centre, there is a lot more to come on this subject. Are you curious to know what all that is? Then stay tuned via our online channels:
