The energy transition requires more than just sustainable energy generation. The rapid electrification of the construction sector, industry and infrastructure is also driving up the demand for smart, flexible energy supply systems. At the same time, grid congestion is placing increasing pressure on the electricity grid. Innovations such as those from Volta Energy offer a concrete alternative to this. With sustainable mobile energy systems that replace diesel generators, the Arnhem-based company is not only helping to reduce CO₂ emissions but also contributing to a more robust and flexible energy system. In doing so, Volta Energy is strengthening the position of the Lifeport region as one of the frontrunners in the field of energy innovation and sustainable technology.
Volta Energy, the market leader in sustainable mobile energy solutions, has secured a new €38 million financing facility from Invest-NL and ING. With this funding, the company is accelerating its international growth strategy and expanding its fleet of sustainable mobile energy systems from 500 to 1,000 units (Voltas). The investment will primarily support Volta Energy’s continued roll-out in the Netherlands and Germany, two major markets for mobile energy supply in Europe.
The European market for mobile power generation is still largely dominated by diesel generators. In north-west Europe alone, hundreds of thousands of mobile generators are in use in sectors such as construction and infrastructure, telecoms and renewable energy. At the same time, stricter emissions regulations, grid congestion and increasing sustainability targets are driving a rapidly growing demand for clean alternatives.
Volta Energy is striving for a future in which polluting diesel generators are replaced by sustainable, stable and cost-efficient alternatives that meet the highest environmental standards. The company is responding to this trend with an innovative Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) offering. Customers do not need to purchase Volta units; instead, they gain access to reliable, low-emission and more cost-efficient mobile energy through a flexible subscription or usage model.
A sustainable alternative to diesel generators
The Volta is a sustainable mobile energy module that utilises advanced battery, solar and hybrid technology. Compared with traditional diesel generators, a Volta reduces CO₂ emissions by around 90 per cent, whilst also drastically reducing noise pollution, emissions of harmful substances and fuel consumption. Thanks to the Energy-as-a-Service model, customers benefit from predictable energy costs, maximum availability and access to the latest technology without high upfront investment, thereby reducing your reliance on fossil fuels. With Volta Energy, you not only make your energy supply more sustainable, but you also reduce your operating costs. A clear win-win for both the environment and your budget.

Doubling the fleet lays the foundation for further European growth
The funding will enable Volta Energy to double its fleet from 500 to 1,000 Voltas over the next year and a half. With this expansion, Volta Energy is taking a significant step towards its ambition to become the standard for cleaner, mobile energy supply in Europe. The company still sees considerable growth potential in a market that is developing rapidly under the influence of the energy transition, electrification and the increasing pressure to reduce emissions.
Invest-NL and ING are supporting the next phase of growth
The funding from Invest-NL and ING underlines both parties’ confidence in Volta Energy’s business model, technology and scalability.
Remco Westerbeek, Investment Manager at Invest-NL:
“Volta Energy has developed a proven proposition in a market that is ready for acceleration. The company combines strong commercial traction with a scalable, asset-based model. Volta Energy makes a tangible contribution to the energy transition, partly because Volta’s solutions are more economically and operationally attractive than polluting diesel generators. Thanks to this solid foundation, Invest-NL and ING were able to jointly put in place a financing structure that aligns with the company’s ambitious growth plans.”
For ING, this funding represents a significant milestone in its contribution to the energy transition. Martijn Hamstra, senior relationship manager at ING Bank:
“It was an intensive and informative process, during which we were ultimately able, together with Invest-NL, to offer Volta Energy a sound and suitable solution to enable it to achieve its growth objectives.”
‘Out with diesel generators, in with Voltas’
For co-founder and CEO Roel Bleumer, the funding is primarily about the impact Volta Energy can make by scaling up its fleet.
Roel Bleumer, co-founder and CEO of Volta Energy:
“We founded Volta Energy with one clear mission: to consign all polluting mobile generators to the scrapheap of history. The mobile energy market is on the cusp of a fundamental transformation. Customers want sustainable energy solutions without compromising on reliability, flexibility or cost. With this funding, we can accelerate the expansion of our fleet, strengthen our presence in the Netherlands and Germany, and help even more organisations say goodbye to diesel.”
About Volta Energy
