John van Sambeek

John is actively involved in The Economic Board as Health Strategist and also works at the Valorisation Department of the Radboudumc. From regional strengths, John works on economic development and innovations. From a common ambition, he wants to work on the social issues (missions) of tomorrow through a joint effort of companies, knowledge institutions and governments. Therefore, boosting, selecting, connecting, facilitating and prioritising structure-strengthening regional initiatives, with which real 'impact' can be realised, are part of his job description.
Background, previous experience
In addition to his work at The Economic Board, John van Sambeek has worked at the Valorisation Department of the Radboudumc for many years. In this, his focus is also on Regional Economic Development, which involves public-private partnerships. He leads the Regional Economic Development unit, which develops programmes and projects that are closely linked to Radboudumc's strategic economic policy. In addition, John is director of Science Meets Business Nijmegen B.V. (SMB), a wholly owned subsidiary of Radboudumc. SMB supports innovative start-ups in Life Sciences & Health in their entrepreneurship in the form of business support. SMB also has suitable accommodation and facilities for starting entrepreneurs in this sector. Furthermore, John is originally a corporate lawyer and has experience in the field of knowledge protection and exploitation of intellectual property (IP) and competition law.
