Von Gahlen
Von Gahlen was nominated as the region's pearl by both the Lindus Association of Entrepreneurs in the province of Limburg and the municipality of Zevenaar. This is an exceptionally innovative company that is at the top of nuclear medicine with its knowledge and expertise. It is a company we can be proud of as a region, but this pearl is still relatively unknown within the region.
In addition, it has great momentum: the family-run company is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. The company is very committed to its employees and the region. Together with its regional suppliers, they are responsible for significant employment.
Von Gahlen was therefore presented with the Pearl award on 19 December by The Economic Board director Sigrid Helbig.
About Parel Von Gahlen
This modern producer of lead shielding products has an important role in the nuclear medicine chain. Von Gahlens' products are aimed at shielding radiation in the production and use of medical isotopes. Medical isotopes are atoms made radioactive for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer. Worldwide, Von Gahlen provides customers with reliable products that exceed industry standards and safety requirements.
Von Gahlen builds production facilities for producers of radioactive medicines worldwide. They are often complete laboratory facilities for academic hospitals, such as for VUmc in Amsterdam, UMCG in Groningen and Radboudumc in Nijmegen. Jaap Duiker, who forms the management together with his brother Alex: "If we make nice things for them that they are happy with, that is shared with hospitals in America, India and Australia." Meanwhile, Von Gahlen has an international customer base. "They choose our level of quality, but also our flexibility and expertise. We sit at the table as an advisor."
Knowledge organisation
The level of quality Jaap and his brother achieve by putting a lot of energy into their employees to develop from production company to knowledge organisation. Alex Duiker: "Our product has become increasingly complex over the years. We have invested a lot in the group of people who develop and build the product together with us. This is how we are shaping the transition together. Knowledge is our strength. Our customers see that too. "You have a very talented group of people", a customer told me recently. That makes us proud."
Focused on the long term
It is difficult to recruit good people in this tight labour market, especially because the company is not very well known in the region. On the other hand, the need is growing. "The focus on radioactive therapy is increasing in the coming years, so we need more and more employees," says Jaap. "You can really make a difference with us, by contributing to a unique product that serves an important purpose. In our company, that means taking initiatives and daring to think outside the box. All this from a drive to exceed customer expectations as a team."
The family business has a lot to offer. Alex: "We are focused on the long term. The social aspect sometimes makes us take different decisions from companies working in the interests of shareholders. A social company where we make the best product together with commitment, energy and dedication to our customers."
Local suppliers
The brothers complement each other well and do not forget where they come from. They produce the lead parts themselves; many suppliers come from the area. Think steel structures, stainless steel parts and paintwork. "We deliver customised work. That is why we need good value for money. We achieve this with our suppliers in the region. We create jobs and thus make our region stronger."
