Building an energy supply without diesel, but with smart technology and a large dose of idealism. That is what brothers Roel and Luc Bleumer are doing with their colleagues at Volta Energy. The company develops solar-powered mobile energy systems as a sustainable alternative to the well-known diesel generators. Thanks to their innovative approach, social commitment and strong growth, Volta Energy received the first Lifeport Pearl Award of 2025, presented by Jan van Dellen.

The Voltas, smart trailers full of technology, deliver sustainable electricity to places without a grid connection. Think construction sites, festivals or temporary projects. The systems combine solar panels with batteries, smart software and a hybrid back-up of hydrogen or biodiesel. More than 400 Volta systems in four different power types are now operating in Europe.
The end of the diesel era
It all started in their parents' barn in Westervoort, where Roel and Luc built the first prototype during their studies. The company now has over 60 employees and operates from three Dutch offices and one in Germany. Yet the brothers are still closely involved every step of the way. Roel: "We were raised technical and grew up with sustainability. So it feels very natural for us to work towards this goal."
And they don't carry that mission alone. Volta Energy's team plays a key role in it. "Starting a company with your brother is special," says Luc, "but it is our team that makes the difference. From design to production, from planning to support, we all do this together. Everyone contributes, and we are incredibly proud of that."
The Arnhem-Nijmegen region also plays an important role in that success. Roel: "There is so much knowledge, experience and willingness to cooperate here. We have partners, schools, companies and municipalities around us who understand what is needed for the energy transition. It is particularly nice to be able to grow here."
