Teleon Surgical

Teleon Surgical manufactures implantable lenses, with the unique feature that they are multifocal. The lenses are intended for patients requiring cataract surgery. Whereas patients previously had to choose between coming out of the operation with short-sightedness or long-sightedness, this is no longer necessary with these intraocular lenses.

This innovation in eye care was reason for The Economic Board to present Teleon Surgical with a Pearl Award. On 19 May 2022, CEO Mark Lansu accepted the Parel award from the hands of deputy mayor of Rheden Gea Hofstede and Economic Board director Rijn Platteel.

Future plans

"Helping people to see again" is what drives the company, according to Lansu. According to him, receiving the Pearl also makes it easier for the company to work on its goals. "We are still a relatively unknown company in the region. The award makes us more visible in the region. So we can attract more talent and achieve our goals with those new people."

In addition, the Pearl also provides prestige. "That is important for our contacts with international relations, distributors and partners. It is better to show that we innovate and produce at a high level with an award, than to tell it yourself." Ultimately, the company aims to become one of the three largest and leading companies in the field.

Teleon has kept many of its business processes in-house, making it one of the last independent developers of implant lenses. The company is now looking to develop more technologies to grow further. "In Europe, we are very satisfied with our market position, but abroad there is still a lot to gain. We were acquired by a Chinese party at the end of 2020 and they are helping us enter the Chinese market. All of Asia is an area for us where we can still grow hard. Ultimately, we want to create two markets there and in Europe to develop and sell our technologies."
