A growing region requires smart solutions
The Lifeport Region Arnhem Nijmegen is growing fast and faces a major task: the realisation of tens of thousands of additional homes in the coming years. This growth requires more than just a future-proof living environment and sufficient jobs. It is also about finding a good balance with the landscape and strengthening a pleasant, healthy living environment.
This challenge is both concrete and urgent. By 2035, the region will need nearly40,000 new homes, with a strong focus on affordable and suitable housing options for first-time buyers, older people, students and other target groups. Demand is increasingly shifting towards flats, ground-level homes and other housing concepts that align with a changing society.
Accelerating together via the Woondeal
To tackle this challenge, the region has been working closely with public authorities, housing associations, developers, builders and businesses for many years, including through the Woondeal, Tempotafel, Regiodeal and Novex.
Within this collaboration, clear agreements are made on accelerating housing construction and ensuring a sufficient supply of affordable homes. At the same time, the focus is on quality and quality of life, so that growth goes hand in hand with broad prosperity.
Future-proof building as the new standard
In doing so, the region is making a clear commitment to an innovative approach. Programmes such as‘Future-Proof Construction’ are aimed at faster, smarter and more sustainable building. This involves, amongst other things, the use of circular materials, reducing CO₂ emissions and organising the construction supply chain more efficiently.
The ambition is clear: to achieve at least 50 per cent circular construction by 2030, without compromising the pace of the housing construction programme.
Meet Lifeport at PROVADA
During PROVADA, the Green Arnhem-Nijmegen Metropolitan Region, the municipalities of Arnhem and Nijmegen and partners will show how this integrated approach works in practice. With themes such as the impact ladder construction, fastlane, grid-conscious building, energy and circular building, it will show how innovation and cooperation contribute to concrete solutions.
