GreenKarting

GreenKarting is an initiative by Techportal, the redesign.life Foundation and NexTechnician, and is the leading hands-on educational programme in which pupils build, maintain and drive their own electric karts. In an active and inspiring way, they are introduced to technology, innovation, sustainable energy and e-mobility.

The GreenKarts form the heart of a contemporary and context-rich curriculum for secondary education, vocational education and higher education. Pupils work within a continuous learning pathway towards further technical education and careers within the Lifeport Arnhem-Nijmegen region. In this way, technology is not only made visible but also directly relevant to their future.

GreenKarting began in 2010 as a small-scale project involving a construction manual and a few days of driving. It has since grown into a fully-fledged educational programme, complete with online teaching materials and assignments for practical career guidance. Participating schools work on, amongst other things, optional subjects, elective modules, Technasium assignments, STO and Techkwadraat activities, and PGP programmes.

GreenKarting is intended for:

  • Secondary schools, vocational colleges and higher education institutions
  • Students interested in technology, energy and innovation
  • Companies wishing to contribute to talent development and the promotion of technology

The programme is growing rapidly. There are now 55 schools taking part, with 89 GreenKarts. In this way, GreenKarting demonstrates how technical education can keep pace with current social and technological developments.

This initiative is supported by the Talentplan Energy programme under the Human Capital Agreement. The Economic Board of the Arnhem-Nijmegen Region is making a GreenKart available to a school in the region. Together with partners such as NXP, HAN, IW Nederland and the municipality of Arnhem, a powerful coalition is being formed that is actively committed to scaling up GreenKarting in the Lifeport region.

At the launch on 21 May during Arnhem Electricity Week, the first GreenKarting construction kits will be officially handed over to participating schools. This afternoon will therefore not only mark a festive start, but also the official launch of the GreenKarting programme in the Lifeport Arnhem-Nijmegen region.

Over the coming months, pupils will set to work building, testing and customising their own electric go-kart. Lifeport will be following one of the schools throughout this programme and documenting their journey of discovery into the world of technology, innovation and the energy transition. This will highlight how young people learn by doing, collaborate and work towards the mobility of tomorrow.

By making GreenKarting construction kits available to motivated schools, the programme has a direct impact in the classroom. This collaboration strengthens the sustainable link between education and the business community and helps to inspire both pupils and their parents to pursue a future in technology. GreenKarting is also well aligned with the Human Capital Agreement and various talent development plans.

There are various ways to get involved with GreenKarting:

  • Schools can take part in the programme and make use of teaching materials and construction kits
  • Companies can contribute by providing a GreenKarting kit
  • Partners can contribute ideas and work together on further scaling up and development
