Arnhem, 21 May - Arnhem Electricity Week announces it will continue under a new name: European Electricity Week. With this name change, more than two and a half years after the start of the initiative, the organisation is taking an ambitious next step in its development. The new name reflects both the international growth of the event and the conviction that the energy transition can only be accelerated through cross-border cooperation.
What started as an initiative with a strong regional base in Arnhem, has quickly developed into a fast-growing platform where companies, governments, knowledge institutions, startups and talent come together around the future of energy, electrification and grid congestion.
"We are extremely proud to be able to take this step already," said Mark Spijker, director of the week "The event is growing faster than we ever expected. We find that interest is becoming increasingly international and that the challenges we face simply do not stop at national borders."
According to Spijker, the energy transition requires European cooperation. New energy systems, electrification, infrastructure and innovation require connection between regions, countries and ecosystems.
“If we really want to make an impact on the energy transition, we must collaborate across borders, learn from one another and work together to build the energy systems of the future. With European Electricity Week, we want to play an even greater role in this.”
Arnhem remains the foundation
Although the name is changing, the connection with Arnhem remains as strong as ever. The organisation emphasises that Arnhem remains the very home base of the initiative, a region that is increasingly prominent both nationally and internationally as an energy and electricity hub.
"We notice that Arnhem is on an impressive rise. The region is increasingly seen nationally and internationally as a place where energy innovation, electrification and system change come together. With this name change, we also want to reinforce the region's international ambitions."
Under the name Arnhem ElectriCity, the organisation also aims to organise even more activities in the region throughout the year. These include events and initiatives that seek to forge stronger links with residents, young talent, the education sector, entrepreneurs and the wider region. In this way, the organisation aims to contribute to a strong local energy ecosystem and greater social engagement.
The annual European Electricity Week then becomes the moment when all these strands come together: the international meeting place and highlight of the year where regional strength, European cooperation, innovation and talent reinforce one another.
"Arnhem is not disappearing from our story, quite the contrary. Arnhem remains our home and our foundation. European Electricity Week is the next step to take the impact of what happens here in Arnhem further into Europe."
With the launch of European Electricity Week, the organisation is taking a new step in its mission: to connect people, knowledge, innovation and regions to make the energy transition in Europe faster, smarter and more inclusive.
